To process the cloud points, a trace-lines algorithm has been developed.
The same algorithm is also used in the Editor application.
In the scanner app, the maximum allowed deviation between a real point and its corresponding theoretical line is fixed at 15 mm and cannot be adjusted yet.
However, in the Editor, this 15 mm limit can be modified, giving you full control over the line-tracing accuracy.
The Trace Lines algorithm is using the Least Square statistical method to deliver the most probable theoretical line.
CAUTION: If small obstacles exist—such as wall sockets—with a thickness of less than 15 mm, the trace-lines algorithm will include those points in the line calculation.
This will cause a slight displacement of the detected line.In practice, this affects only applications that require very high precision, because the displacement is extremely small.
For example, if you scan a wall using 20 points and 2 of them fall on a socket, the resulting line shift will be approximately 1–2 mm.
To avoid this, you can use the Editor to remove such points and get new lines.
