    Smart Scan

    780 views 0

Smart Scan is fully integrated into the Combo Scan mode. Within Combo Scan, you can choose between Auto or Smart behavior depending on your workflow.

Smart Scan drastically reduces the total scanning time by performing the process in three stages.

In the first stage, a fast 360° scan is executed using a larger step angle. During this initial pass, the 2dscanner analyzes the environment and identifies straight lines and frontier areas.

In the second stage, the scanner focuses on corners and on any area that does not belong to a straight line.
It checks the intersections of the lines detected in the first stage and compares the calculated intersection points with the real measurements.
If the intersection is confirmed to be correct, that entire region is skipped, saving time without reducing accuracy.

Any other region that is not part of a straight line—such as curved surfaces or irregular shapes—is also scanned in this stage to ensure the full geometry is captured.

In the third pass, the scanner searches for frontiers, such as doors, windows, or obstacles. When a frontier is detected—typically indicated by a sudden anomaly in nearby data points—the 2dscanner switches to high-precision scanning to capture these features accurately.

You can choose from the screen of Smart Scan the steps to use at each stage.

Lines = 20 means that, during the first stage, the scanner will take 100 measurements in total.
You can reduce this value to 10 for more complex or irregular spaces, which often results in a faster overall scan.

Other = 4 refers to the density of the second-stage scan.
In this stage, the scanner inserts 4 additional measurements between the points captured in the first pass. For example, if the first scan measured points at positions 0, 20, 40, 60, and the region between 40 and 60 contains points that do not align with straight lines—or if there is an intersection of extended lines—the 2dscanner will collect additional points at: 44, 48, 52, 56

This allows the system to refine the shape and verify whether a true corner or deviation exists.

Frontier = 1 controls the density of the third-stage scan, which focuses on discontinuities such as doors, windows, or obstacles. If a window is detected, for example between positions 52 and 56, the scanner will add 1-step interval measurements—resulting in 3 extra points—to capture the frontier accurately. The maximum point density is 2000 measurements per full 360° rotation, which corresponds to a resolution of approximately 0.18° per step.

Keep in mind that the algorithm may sometimes identify discontinuities in complex objects, such as curtains or soft surfaces, which may temporarily resemble a frontier.

The system can also identify and skip windows automatically. This occurs when it detects long distances or weak signal values, which are characteristic of glass surfaces. So when it finds 2 points with distance higher than the limit, it will ignore the area between them. This means you might loose a window frame or another detail. In this case you can later scan only this frame using Auto.

To enable this behavior, activate either the low-signal filter or the long-shot filter. The long-shot filter is the safer option, as there are many cases where valid points may still appear with low signal quality.

You can start Smart Scan whenever you need. Even if you have acquired some points.

Once you review the settings, tap Start, and the 2dscanner will begin the scanning process.

Region Scanning-After the first scan is done with 10,20,30 or 40 steps per measurement, the App will detect areas that do not belong to lines. These areas will appear in the Live Drawing window and they will be scanned one by one.

If you press back it will cancel the Smart Scan and you can keep scanning in Combo Scanning window. You can restart Smart Scan whenever you want.

The same goes for the third stage of frontier scanning. If there are consequent regions they will be merged in a larger triangle. If some of the regions is not of interest the user can tap Skip Region to save more time.

    Skip Region

Finished– Once it’s done you are back in Combo Scanning and you can continue your session, combine scans, or scan more points if you like.

Smart Scan is saving time without the need of user attention. All the essential details are scanned with precision while the straight lines are bypassed.
