Smart Scan significantly reduces the scanning time. First a 360 scan is done with higher step angle. Then straight lines and frontiers are detected. At the second scan 2dscanner will check the intersections of the lines found. If the calculated intersection matches the real one then this region will be skipped.
Frontiers – Doors, windows, obstacles. When a frontier is detected (large anomaly in near points) then 2dscanner will try to find with highest precision this frontier.
Generally, it is also able to recognize and skip the windows. It does this automatically when it finds a long or low signal. In fact, windows usually produce low signals or long distances.
Smart Scan is embedded in Combo Scan function. In Combo Scan there is the option of Auto or Smart.
You can start Smart Scan whenever you need. Even if you have acquired some points.
Smart Scan Settings
Once it starts you can change the options for Smart Scan.
Straight Lines Precision – This is the step that the prescan will be done. This means that 100 measurements will taken in 360 angle. If you measure normal rooms then 20 is good. For small areas it can be modified to 30 or 40. Every straight line will have this step angle from point to point. 20 steps=3.6°.
Other points Precision – The sections that do not belong to a line will be scanned with this precision. 4 steps equal to 0.72°.
Frontiers Precision-Frontiers of doors, windows, obstacles are approached by 2dscanner with multiple shots. The characteristic that gives us the frontier is that between 2 points near each other the measured distance has large difference. You cannot use frontiers for precision constructions. The exact point of the frontier is between the 2 points scanned. This means that if the distance from 2dscanner is 3m and we have 1 step=0.18 degrees, the point is located somewhere in between the 9.4mm distance of the 2 points.
Region Scanning-After the first scan is done with 10,20,30 or 40 steps per measurement, the App will detect areas that do not belong to lines. These areas will appear in the Live Drawing window and they will be scanned one by one.
If you press back it will cancel the Smart Scan and you can keep scanning in Combo Scanning window. You can restart Smart Scan whenever you want.
If some of the regions is not of interest the user can tap Skip Region to save more time.

Frontier Scanning – In the end 2dscanner Pro App will detect the frontiers and scan them with maximum analysis, meaning 1 step per measurement. Again Skip Region can be tapped to bypass Frontiers.
Finished– Once it’s done you are back in Combo Scanning and you can continue your session, combine scans, or scan more points if you like.
Smart Scan is saving time without the need of user attention. All the essential details are scanned with precision while the straight lines are bypassed.
