When you have decided where to put the stickers rotate 2Dscanner at the desired location.
Tap the Reference point button.
On the next screen, tap the Sticker button. A sticker will be added at the current laser position.
And place the sticker at the laser dot precisely.
Important remarks in general
Do not place the stickers on corners or on door frames.
The sticker must have a straight wall on its right side, because the 2dscanner uses this straight line to align the scans.
The longer the straight section, the better the alignment will be.
For two stickers, a straight segment of about 30 cm is enough.
For one sticker, it is better to have a visible straight line of over 1 meter.If you used Smart Scan, the number of points captured on that line might be limited. After placing the sticker, press Auto again to capture more points along the straight line and achieve better scan alignment.
It is better to use a piece of masking tape and place it vertically.
Then, you can either define the left or right side as the reference (which means you must stick the edge of the tape accurately on the laser dot) or simply draw a straight line with a marker, which is easier.Try to keep the tape or the line as vertical as possible. This gives you one degree of freedom in height, meaning you don’t need to hit exactly the same height every time. This makes the targeting process much easier.
Automatic Numbering: Stickers are numbered automatically in the order you place them.
It is advisable to write the sticker’s number directly on the masking tape. This helps prevent mistakes when using multiple stickers and provides an additional layer of safety, making it easier to always know your exact position.
Important Remarks using 1 sticker
Before moving the 2dscanner, you need to place reference stickers so that you can aim at them from the new position. Choose positions where the stickers will be visible from the next setup and where you can hit them with approximately the same aiming angle.
In the image below, if you intend to use one sticker for the combination, stickers 1 or 4 are the best choice. Stickers 2 and 3 will also produce a good result, but not as accurate as using 1 or 4.
Important remarks using 2 stickers
If you are going to use the 2-sticker method, then DO NOT place the stickers opposite to each other. The app also warns you about this.
When the stickers are placed in diametrically opposite positions, and the new 2dscanner position is roughly in the middle, the result will not be reliable.
The ideal setup is for the angle between the two lines
Sticker 1 → 2dscanner and Sticker 2 → 2dscanner
to be close to 90 degrees.
Check the example below to better understand this concept.
When you are scanning from a corridor and need to enter a room — moving from position 1 to position 2 — the best approach is to use stickers 2 and 3.
If you use stickers 2 and 5 or 1 and 4, the results will not be good because those stickers are diametrically opposite relative to the 2dscanner position.
Using 1 and 2 or 3 and 5 is also acceptable, but the accuracy will be similar to using only one sticker, so there is no real benefit in that case.
All of this, of course, matters only when you cannot aim at the room’s corners due to obstacles such as furniture.
Otherwise, it is always best to use the corners.
